Healthcare Access Disparities Analysis
Quantifying healthcare inequity across Pennsylvania counties (a Deloitte challenge prompt).
For the Applied Research in Math capstone I worked on a Deloitte challenge prompt to quantify inequity in healthcare access across Pennsylvania counties.
Highlights
- Inequality indices: a modified Gini coefficient, the Atkinson index, and a weighted utilitarian welfare function.
- Mental-health gap: mental-health providers showed the highest inequity (Gini 0.185, Atkinson 0.4399).
- Outcomes: a significant negative correlation between mental-health provider density and suicide rates in rural PA.
- Regression: the model explained 62.2% of the variance; rural status and lack of insurance were significant negative predictors.
